Once Upon A TYPE…

the art of pointless thinking.

my spicy and sour day!

you’re reading it right, it’s not sweet and sour as supposed but spicy and sour ;-)

calamansi tree

i was out with my colleague sorya earlier when we passed a stall of a calamansi tree vendor. chinese new year is coming very soon and during this time thousands of calamansi trees are being sold for decorations. in chinese tradition they normally use it as a lucky tree because the tree is full of fruit and you know that in their culture, anything that is round is considered lucky and symbolises money but the twist here is that they don’t get to eat the fruit. what they’ll do is to let it rippened and then throw the tree away after the celebration. what a waste, ey!

so being practical, i decided to buy a tree for welcoming the year of the ox, hoping that it’ll bring good luck for my family and afterwards i will keep it growing so i can cookย  pork bistek with calamansi :-D being on a tight budget, i didn’t get the big one, instead i bought the $5 tree with full ofย  round fruits (i thought that the more i water it the more it’ll grow bigger so no need to invest on a big tree). and just right after buying, the seller pointed on another small plant. it looks cute because of it’s colourful fruits and when i asked sorya what it is she answered ‘jelly’ with delight. being puzzled as to how they can grow jelly on a pot, i picked one fruit and tried to figure out what it is – as i smelled the small thing, it came to my senses that this is no jelly at all but ‘CHILI’…por dios por santo sorya this is chili not jelly, ok!!!

chili tree

looking on my little trees, i felt happiness inside me. why? because it’s m first time to have and grow trees. therefore, i am considering it as a challenge – to make their lives longer. also, it’s good that my house is just beside the fire exit, now i can put them there and water easily :-D i’ve already mentioned to the kids that they cannot pick the calamansi fruits not until monday. right after chinese new year they can enjoy it’s goodness to watever they want to do :-)
