InterContinental Phnom Penh Commemorates Earth Hour

Mother Earth is shouting for help as the world is facing crisis everywhere. There’s tsunami, earthquake, air pollution, typhoon, and other natural calamities that can destroy nature’s beauty and calmness. Today, InterContinental Phnom Penh celebrated Earth Hour on it’s 2nd year by giving “VIP” children an activity to learn more why we need to help in saving the planet.

The program started in a short story of sad animals including the polar bear in the Arctic, monkey in the forest, and fish down the sea where their natural habitat’s being destroyed by the severe cut down of trees, rampant garbage disposal in the open waters, and continuous temperature rising that melts the ice caps in North and South Pole.

The second part was the color competition for children aged 6-8 and lantern making for those who are 9-12. Andrea and Aaron got a special chance once again to join this meaningful event together with their friends VJ and EJ. All the four kids and the rest of the participants showed their best in creating the most beautiful work of art. Parents are all anxious too while watching their children work. And of course, I, being the stage mother, didn’t let this pass without helping Andrea in designing. Oh well, I only cut the pictures and the rest of the work is hers :D

After an hour, the kids were given a chance to grab a bite, tasting the hotel’s delicious foods and soon the winners were announced. Since Andrea and Aaron were in different categories, they both aspired to win the prize and just like the past year, they’re giving away the precious bunny chocolate again for the best artwork.

For the second time around, Andrea’s able to bag the 1st place in the lantern making competition from the niner’s group! Hoorah! Hoorah! We couldn’t believe it for there were so many better lanterns than her but the judges gave way because of the message she wrote saying “Save Mother Earth!”(you can imagine how happy I was when they called her name, hahaha)

On March 26, 8:30PM, many nations in the world will turn off their light for an hour to save electricity and energy. Let us all commemorate in Earth Hour and act vigorously in keeping our planet a safe place to live.
