What do you do when it’s bed weather?
September 26th, 2011 Posted 12:52 pm
I told myself that I’d be doing loads of things this holiday since we’re not going anywhere. But dang! It’s the 3rd day of our long holiday now, and I still haven’t done much aside from sleeping, cuddling, watching movies, and eating. All of these I blame to the bed weather we’re experiencing. The kids are the same too. Round the clock they’re watching the movies till they fall asleep. Couch potatoes as you’d say
So what are the best things you can do when bed weather strikes? Here are some things that came in my mind:
> Line up your fave movies/DVDs and get ready for a movie-marathon with your love ones.
> Make easy to cook foods like popcorn, pasta, sandwiches, or dumplings. These will save you time in preparing them, but won’t jeopardize the nutrients your body need.
> Sleep as long as you want. The weather is good and nothing beats a 10-hour sleep with your pillows beside you and full blast AC on.
> Read your book when boredom kicks in.
> Play with your kids at home and be a kid at heart once again.
> Listen to soothing music to uplift your lazy feeling. I know and I am sure that playing songs around the house can make a difference in your mood.
Ooohh, I’m sleepy once again, I think I’d better hit my bed while this weather lasts and when I wake up, I’ll bake a cake for my hubby and kids

Plastic Free Lucban
August 14th, 2011 Posted 10:19 pm
Kung kaya ng Lucban, Quezon na i-eliminate ang pag gamit ng plastic to make their town eco-friendly bat inde magawa sa buong Pilipinas!?
It has been my long time dream to go to the market and buy stuff, and put them in a brown bag, parang yung nakikita ko ba sa mga movies sa States. Parang classic kasi ang dating pag ganun. Inde ko akalain na sa Lucban ko lang pala yun mararanasan, no need na para pumunta ng Amerika, hihi!
On a more serious note, I think the government’s initiative on this campaign is really good. Not only they’re teaching the local people to go green but they’re also teaching them to value money and resources. Papers can be recycled anytime, unlike plastics that takes millions of years before it dissolve. So if they can do it, why can’t we right? Go Lucban! I hope other parts of the country sees your beauty and make you their inspiration to improve their ways of life.

Treating Homesickness Through Eating
August 9th, 2011 Posted 10:13 am
I know it’s hard to be away from my family in the Philippines and I know it’s difficult to treat home sickness when all you want to do is be with them. Though it’s not easy to face the reality of an OFW’s hardships, I tend to treat myself in the most convenient ways, so that I won’t go insane thinking about home.
Today as I prepare my baon, I thought of home once again. Sabi ko, kahit inde ko kasama ang pamilya ko ayos lang, ikakain ko na lang sila, kaya naman nagluto ako ng tuyo at scrambled eggs at nagdala ako ng Goldilock’s cake at Chippy sa school. This way, malayo man ako sa kanila, parang malapit na din.

Real Men Wear Pink
July 25th, 2011 Posted 11:14 pm
Almost every girl in the world loves pink and if you think that only girls can wear pink, you’re totally mistaken. In the late 17th century pink was considered to be the color for boys while girls were designated with blue. However as time passed by, color designation between the two sexes had changed. Now, color pink stands for “in good condition or in good health” in medical terminologies and it is the official color of the Breast Cancer awareness.
Speaking of breast cancer, do you know that more and more women these days are becoming diligent in checking themselves if they have any symptoms of breast cancer? Breast cancer is known to be affecting many women’s lives and there are many ways too to prevent it. Below are the symptoms of breast cancer that you should be familiar with:
- A breast lump or thickening that feels different from the surrounding tissue
- Bloody discharge from the nipple
- Change in the size or shape of a breast
- Changes to the skin over the breast, such as dimpling
- Inverted nipple
- Peeling, scaling or flaking of the nipple or breast skin
- Redness or pitting of the skin over your breast, like the skin of an orange
Although the majority of breast changes don’t turn out to be cancerous, make an appointment to see your doctor if you find a lump or other change in your breast. Even if you’ve just had a mammogram with normal results, it’s still important to have your doctor evaluate any changes.
If you have a family member or friends who are diagnosed with breast cancer, be vigilant in supporting the breast cancer awareness program in your town to give moral support and information on how we can prevent losing boobs. Wearing breast cancer t-shirts can make a big difference in saving life.
Save the boobies! Wear pink and spread the love.

X-Men First Class in Legend Cinema Cambodia
July 14th, 2011 Posted 10:55 am
My last week in Phnom Penh is getting more and more exciting. First, school is ending this week, my reports are all done, our bags are packed for our trip to Pi, and last I happened to watch the movie premier of X-Men First Class with my husband last night. For some, it may not be that exciting but for me, this is something I look forward to and it’s such a splendid feeling to accomplish things right before we leave.
In my previous post, I have mentioned that I got 2 free ‘premier’ tickets from Legend Cinemas Cambodia for the movie X-Men First Class and prior to watching it, most of my friends have told me that it’s really a good movie. Well it really is!
Nestle and I were 10 minutes behind schedule when we arrived at the cinema and I felt a bit disappointed, because I wasn’t able to see the intro of the movie. For me seeing the introduction gives more thrill and spice to the story, plus it’s really important to arrive at least 15 minutes early at the cinema to avoid disturbing other patrons who are already settled in the seats.
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS
Rating: 9 out of 10
Cast:
James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier
Michael Fassbender as Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto
Jennifer Lawrence as Raven Darkholme / Mystique
Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw
Rose Byrne as Dr. Moira MacTaggert
January Jones as Emma Frost
Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy / Beast
Jason Flemyng as Azazel
Zoë Kravitz as Angel Salvadore
Lucas Till as Alex Summers / Havok
Morgan Lily as Young Raven Darkholme / Young Mystique
Oliver Platt as Man in Black
Edi Gathegi as Armando Muñoz / Darwin
Ray Wise as Secretary of State of the United States
Bill Milner as Young Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto
Caleb Landry Jones as Sean Cassidy / Banshee
Álex González as Janos Quested / Riptide
Demetri Goritsas as Levene
Laurence Belcher as Young Charles Xavier
Directed by Matthew Vaughn
Story:
In 1962, at the height of the Cold War, two men from different backgrounds pool their resources to bring attention to the plight of those with genetic mutations, some that give them extraordinary powers, others that make them look different. Professor Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) is an academic in genetic mutations, while Erik Lehnsherr (Mike Fassbender) is a Holocaust survivor bent on getting revenge against those responsible for his parents’ death in the concentration camps. In particular, he’s after Klaus Schmidt (Kevin Bacon) who years later has turned up as a wealthy power broker known as Sebastian Shaw, who has become involved with playing both sides of the conflict between the United States and the Soviets.
My Say:
This is a true origin story showing how Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr first met and how they worked together until the formation of their divergent ideologies led them to create warring mutant factions. After watching the movie, I began to understand more how X-Men had evolved. I’ve been a fan of X-Men since I was a kid and I really love Storm. Matthew Vaughn did a fantastic job in directing the movie and it’s epic!

Legend Cinema Cambodia Reward Bloggers
July 13th, 2011 Posted 12:02 am
What is sweeter than having a couple of premier tickets for X-Men First Class movie? Legend Cinema Cambodia in City Mall rewards bloggers like me by writing unbiased, first-hand experience in the cinema by giving free tickets for their upcoming movie premier. Isn’t that awesome!
To cut the long story short, my blogging simply pays off by having two tickets every time Legend Cinema has a premier. Too bad I’ll be away for three weeks, which means I won’t be able to watch their new movies. But no hassle, I can still catch up when I come back here in Phnom Penh, so I’ll definitely update my experience as soon as I’m in the city.
Earlier, I went to the cinema to get my tickets and was lucky enough to meet Jesmond Chong, General Manager of Westec Media. He was so nice and I managed to ask a few questions how they deal media in terms of promoting their business. To add more happiness on my face, he gave Aiken a Transformers shirt which is exclusive from their cinema. Super cool!
My daughter looks so cute on her white tee while her dad is wearing his black Transformers shirt.
Oh well, I don’t want to spoil the good vibes coming, I’ll make my post quick and sweet. I heard that X-Men First class is a good movie, so I’d better wait till I watch it tomorrow before I give further comments. Exciting!
For those who wants to watch Legend Cinema’s movies, visit their website: http://legendcinema.com.kh or be fan in Facebook.
For now, I’ll have my beauty rest and will update you all by tomorrow

Legend Cinema Cambodia
July 8th, 2011 Posted 2:03 am
At long last, there’s a decent English movie house here in Cambodia that will not only cater the locals but expats too. Yoohoo! Legend Cinema is actually causing stir in the city since it opened yesterday to the public. Many locals are actively participating in Legend Cinema’s Facebook forums, expressing their excitement about the newest happenings in the movie industry. I’m glad that my husband had purchased our VIP tickets two days ago for they run out so fast. Whew!
So earlier, Nestle and I went on a movie date and we watched Transformers 3 on its last full show at 8:40PM. Rating the experience, I’ll give it 8 stars out of 10
1. The chairs are awesome since we’re seating in the VIP section. The chairs are convertible to a love chair where you can lift the armrest in the middle to make it as one.
2. The Dolby surround sound system really brought the movie to life.
3. The quality of pictures are superb especially with the Dolby 3D glasses.
4. The service isn’t that bad too. Though they were late for almost an hour in showing the film. We came there at 8:20 for the 8:40 film but they’ve started at 9:30 because they needed to wait for other late comer audiences. I hope next time they’ll be strict on implementing time, so the audience will learn to come early.
5. Foods in the concession are okay. They have caramel popcorn for 9,000 riels (large), different flavored donuts, and soft drinks. If you purchased a VIP ticket you’ll receive a 6,000 riel free of food in their concession.
6. The prices of the tickets are reasonable too. $6/pax for the ordinary ticket and $8 for the VIP ones in the 3D hall. While $6/pax for VIP and $4/pax for normal ticket if you’re watching a film in 2D.
7. They have 4 schedules that you can choose from if you decided to watch a movie.
- 10:40 am
- 2:10 pm
- 5:25 pm
- 8:40 pm
8. The only thing that I don’t really like in my experience is when we entered the cinema and settled on our sits. There are plenty of rubbish on the floor from the previous patrons who have watched the movie. Popcorn were everywhere and so with the coke cups. Though they’re not the highlight of the place, I would love it more when my chair is clean and there’s no trash under it. I hope they will have more “cleaners” to attend to this next time.
For more info about the cinema, you can visit their Facebook fan page, just click here.
Summing it all, I enjoyed the night with my husband. It is those quiet times together that we appreciate each other more than anything else. Also, Cambodia is evolving fast and it’s people are welcoming the changes with open arms. As an expat working and living here, I’ll continue to look forward for more changes and challenges in this growing city. I know it won’t let me down.

Is it a good time now to invest my money in real estate?
July 7th, 2011 Posted 7:32 pm
I’ve been an OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker) for almost 7 years now and looking back to my achievements in terms of work, I’d say that I’m doing well. Income is good and work is not stressful. Just the right balance to enjoy life and career. Now that my family’s going back to the Philippines for a short vacation, I’m thinking of investing my ample savings to buy a small house and lot as a reward for my hard work. You know, it always feel good when you see something new from the money you’ve earned, so a dream house would be definitely perfect!
Now my problem is where to buy a property. Actually there are many choices to choose from and deciding is always not easy. There are many things to consider when buying a property such as location, model, and pricing. What I am planing to do is to get some real estate advice once we touched down Philippines. It is always safe to know what are the opinions of others in terms of buying a house and lot. I remember my dad told me last time to invest my money on his land in Dasmarinas, but being stubborn I always say no, hahaha.
Also, one more thing that I am considering is when my husband goes to US in a few years time. Now that his petition papers are being processed, sooner or later the whole family’s going to follow there. In that case, we will be needing to buy another property in US. So if you’re in my position, should I buy now or should I wait for some more years till our plan is solid? Toughie!
Oh by the way, I was browsing the net earlier for some house models and there are a few houses to buy in diamond bar that struck my attention. If the US migration will push through, it’s a good place to consider for starters like us.
For the mean time, I’ll chillax and see what happen when I get home next week. Hopefully the excitement will never stop

Andrea joins CIA Football Team
June 27th, 2011 Posted 11:24 pm
Our role as parents is to provide everything that our children needs, so when my daughter Andrea told me that she wants to join the school’s football team, I never had a second thought on allowing her. Despite of being the only girl in the all boys team, her determination’s not moved. I really admire her courage to be good if not the best in every activity that she is into and I hope others will be inspired to follow her examples
I am so proud of you baby!
Special thanks to Coach Ken for the photos and continuous training of the CIA Football team.
