8 bodies of the hostage victims from the previous Quirino Hostage taking were now back to HK. Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo and Social Welfare Secretary Corzaon Soliman together with Chinese Embassy officials led by Ambassador Liu Jianchao took lead in ensuring the coffins go back home safely in HK.

The coffins which are wrapped in transparent plastic and netting and draped with white sheets and topped with bouquets of white flowers were loaded on a chartered Cathay Pacific flight aroun 6:12 P.M.

Some of the survivors and their relatives, numbering about 80, silently boarded the plane on the other side. After the prayer, a moment of silence was observed by participants. Behind them was a large banner inscribed with Chinese characters expressing deep condolences for those who perished.

On the other hand, Hong Kong assured the Philippine government that Filipinos staying and working in China’s main region are all safe mid reports of anger and discrimination against them in the aftermath of the botched hostage crisis in Manila.

I really hope that this nightmare will end soon. Let’s all pray for the souls of the victims and for our fellow Filipinos working and living in China and Hong Kong. I hope the wound will heal faster and the friendship between the two countries will continue amidst the heartaches brought by Monday’s horrible scenario.
